Innovation Strategy

The Government’s National Innovation and Science Agenda has signalled a shift in the research funding landscape, with an ever-increasing emphasis on creating practical outputs from research dollars to benefit the Australian people. As part of this drive, the Australian Research Council has been tasked with creating a set of metrics to assess the performance of universities in terms of Engagement and Impact with industry and the broader community, set to run alongside the Excellence in Research for Australia assessment from 2017-2018 onward.

As part of our Strategic and Business Planning services, CIS has extensive experience in supporting the alignment of research activities and responsibilities towards achieving overarching university and research institute goals. CIS has worked collaboratively with senior university leadership to create both whole-of-university and research portfolio strategic plans and frameworks that leverage research strengths towards creating global impact.

As universities look to adjust to the new assessment framework and corresponding changes to performance-based funding, CIS can apply our tested approach to Strategic and Business Planning to review universities’ existing positions and identify opportunities to strengthen or accelerate industry engagement and impact, and develop through a highly consultative process a future-focused strategy to enhance performance in these areas.

CIS is currently engaged in the development of industry engagement and innovation strategies aimed at delivering impact.
