Developing a strategic framework for a clinical service provider facing increased competition

Client

Clinical services provider

Project Overview

An Australian clinical service provider was at a crossroads with regard to its future direction. While the organisation operated in a commercially competitive environment, it had competing interests concurrently delivering both public good services and undertaking clinical research and training. Their position in commercial markets was being challenged and undercut by commoditised alternatives, and core business was competing for time with development of new products. They engaged CIS to review the organisation’s performance and develop a strategic roadmap.

Approach

Working collaboratively with members of the senior management and Board, CIS consulted extensively with stakeholders across the organisation, as well as with key external organisations. Building upon this consultation, a workshop was held with the Board and management to outline our view of the current organisation and explore potential strategic options.

Results

CIS synthesised this work to deliver a strategic framework. This framework would be used to guide the Board and management’s decision-making, providing an independent assessment of the organisational competencies, a range of core recommendations to leverage these strengths and a roadmap for implementation. This guidance would enable the organisation to compete more effectively in areas of increasing pressure, while retaining its unique and valuable culture.
