Gary Hogan
Professor Gary Hogan serves on the Council of RMIT University and is the former Enterprise Professor of Industry Engagement at Melbourne University. A graduate of the Royal Military College, Duntroon, Gary spent more than 30 years in the Australian Defence Force – most notably as Head of Military Intelligence and Director-General Scientific and Technical Analysis, retiring with the rank of Brigadier-General.
A member of the Order of Australia and recipient of the Conspicuous Service Cross, Gary has also received foreign government awards from the USA (Legion of Merit) and the Republic of Indonesia (Grand Meritorious Military Order). He taught at the Industrial College of the US National Defense University and is a member of the Northern Territory’s Defence and National Security Advisory Group, as well as the Advisory Panel of DefenceConnect’s market intelligence media services.
Gary has held executive positions as Executive Director of the Australian Postgraduate Research Internship Program (APR.Intern) at the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute, Senior Adviser Defence and National Security at KPMG Australia, and as policy adviser on defence industry with the Victorian Government. He has a passion for actualising Australian community ambitions to increase the number of women in STEM-related studies and jobs.
His primary role since joining CIS has been to support universities build closer links with industrial partners.
Gary holds a First Class Honours degree in History (UNSW), a Masters degree in Strategic Studies and International Relations (UNSW) and is fluent in Mandarin, Vietnamese and Bahasa Indonesia.
