Russell is an experienced CEO and consultant in the food and agriculture sector. He has expertise in food systems, project management, capital raising, stakeholder relationship management, internal and external communications, program evaluations, impact modelling and operations management in the not for profit, corporate and higher education sectors.
Russell’s key strength is in the management of complex multi-stakeholder projects and bringing people together to achieve a common goal. He is the Founder and Chair of The Community Grocer, a social enterprise initiative that aims to improve access for people living in public housing to fresh affordable food, via a community owned weekly fruit and vegetable market.
In his previous role, Russell was the National Head of Research & Program Development at SecondBite where he led a managed and developed the organisation’s R&D team nationally, worked with community groups, government and higher education to scope and deliver research and deliver strategic communications including appearances on TV and radio.
In addition to SecondBite, Russell has also worked for organisations such as the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Melbourne University’s Victorian Eco-Innovation Lab, Swinburne University, Melbourne Commonwealth Games, Raw Juice Bar, Bug Bar and Spotless Catering.
Russell has a Diploma in Business and Hospitality Management and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. He has completed courses in Strategic Leadership and Innovation and Resilience for Change. Russell was awarded a scholarship from the Lord Mayors Charitable Foundation to attend the Social Enterprise World Forum in Christchurch.
